Hugs & Kisses Baby Blanket Pattern

Welcome back to Crochet Everyone! Today, I’m excited to share the beautiful Hugs & Kisses Baby Blanket Pattern — a cozy chevron-inspired design filled with lovely texture and charm. This blanket combines classic crochet stitches with playful bobbles and decorative X-stitches, creating a soft and eye-catching project that’s perfect for baby showers, nursery décor, or a heartfelt handmade gift.

The textured details give this blanket its signature “hugs and kisses” appearance, while the repeating chevron pattern adds movement and elegance. Made with worsted weight yarn, this project is warm, durable, and wonderfully cuddly for little ones.

Materials Needed

  • 4000 yards of worsted weight yarn for a throw-size blanket (54” x 66”)
  • 5.5 mm crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Stitch markers (optional, but very helpful for marking peaks and valleys)

Abbreviations

  • Ch(s) – Chain(s)
  • Dc – Double crochet
  • Dc3tog – Double crochet 3 together
  • Hdc – Half double crochet
  • Hdc3tog – Half double crochet 3 together
  • Rep – Repeat
  • Sc – Single crochet
  • Sc3tog – Single crochet 3 together
  • Sk – Skip
  • St(s) – Stitch(es)
  • WS – Wrong side
  • Yoh – Yarn over hook

Special Stitches

Bobble Stitch

Work Dc5tog in the same stitch. In the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Repeat this process 4 more times until you have 6 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all loops to complete the bobble. Bobbles are worked on the wrong side of the blanket.

X-Stitch (X-st)

Skip the next stitch, work 1 dc in the following stitch, then work 1 dc back into the skipped stitch.

Stitch Multiple

  • Multiples of 28 + 18
  • For a throw-size blanket measuring approximately 54” x 66”, chain 214.

Helpful Tip

If you find it difficult to identify the peaks and valleys of the chevron pattern, use stitch markers to keep track of them. This is especially useful on the half double crochet and bobble rows, where the hdc3tog stitches can lean slightly to one side and become harder to spot.
